Cabilla Cornwall – Speculative Website Redesign

Self-initiated concept for portfolio purposes. I am not affiliated with Cabilla Cornwall.

Project Overview

Cabilla Cornwall is a rewilding retreat nestled in the Cornish countryside, offering nature-led experiences, rustic luxury, and restorative practices designed to reconnect guests with the land and themselves.

This redesign concept explores how the homepage could be refined to create a more immersive, emotionally resonant, and conversion-focused digital presence. Key opportunities identified include:

  • Brand presence: Reducing the oversized header logo and improving navigation clarity.

  • Calls-to-action: Making CTAs more specific, engaging, and strategically placed.

  • Content structure: Removing redundancies in sections like “About” and “Practitioners” and clarifying their purpose.

  • Visual design: Enhancing hero imagery, introducing a cohesive forest-inspired colour palette, and improving typography consistency.

  • User flow: Providing clearer messaging and actionable outcomes for sections such as “Vision” and “Field Notes.”

  • Mobile experience: Adjusting UI quirks, including unconventional hamburger menu placement and distracting hover states, to maintain a premium feel.

By addressing these areas, the redesign aims to align the website’s tone and usability with the richness of Cabilla’s retreat offerings, helping visitors feel both inspired and compelled to book.

My Solution

The core goal of the redesign is to boost sign-ups for upcoming retreats.

The homepage should clearly highlight upcoming event dates, pricing, what’s included (like accommodation, activities, and meals), and showcase inviting imagery of the venue itself.

A clean, earthy layout—anchored by a sticky nav and strong CTAs—will guide users toward booking or enquiring with ease. Visual storytelling is key, using real photos of the cabins and retreat life, paired with soft illustrations to create a warm, nature-led feel.

Sections like “Upcoming Retreats,” “Meet the Practitioners,” and a limited-time promo banner will help convert interest into action, while thoughtful design choices (like forest tones, hand-drawn details, and clear structure) will bring the brand’s calm, grounded ethos to life.

Expected Impact

Increased Retreat Bookings

By surfacing key information—like upcoming retreat dates, pricing, and what's included—right on the homepage, potential guests can quickly understand the value of each offering. Clear CTAs like “Book Now” and “See Details” will guide users toward taking action, ultimately leading to a higher conversion rate and more consistent retreat bookings.

Urgency Through Limited Availability

Prominently highlighting when only a few spots remain for an upcoming retreat—especially with a time-limited offer—will create a sense of urgency that encourages faster decision-making.

This tactic helps convert hesitant browsers into paying guests and reduces the chances of last-minute drop-off.

Stronger Brand Alignment

A more cohesive and immersive design—using real imagery, earthy colours, and soft illustration accents—will help the brand feel more aligned with the retreat experience itself.

Visitors will immediately get a sense of the tone, values, and atmosphere of Juniper, building trust and emotional connection from the first scroll.

Better User Experience Across Devices

The new homepage will simplify navigation, reduce clutter, and clarify messaging on both desktop and mobile.

With a cleaner layout, more intuitive sections, and improved visual hierarchy, users will be able to find what they need faster—whether they’re ready to book, just browsing, or seeking more info.
